Fatih Uckun graduated from Heidelberg University in Germany. Later, Dr. Uckun completed a postdoctoral fellowship in immunology with the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota, followed by a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric hematology, oncology, and bone marrow transplantation with the same university. During his residency and fellowships, Dr. Uckun advanced from Associate Professor for the University of Minnesota to tenured Full Professor in the Departments of Therapeutic Radiology-Radiation Oncology, Pediatrics and Pharmacology. He has also served as President and Director of Parker Hughes Institute in St. Paul, Minnesota. Dr. Uckun is currently serving as a Full Professor of Research Pediatrics for the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC) and Childrens Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases of the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). Dr. Uckun also is a member of the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Uckun is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Society of Hematology, the Radiation Research Society, and a senior member in the American Society for Clinical Investigation. Dr. Uckun has published scientific articles over 400 times, mainly in peer-reviewed high impact journals such as Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, USA, Blood, British Journal of Haematology, and New England Journal of Medicine. Dr. Uckun is also affiliated with the National Cancer Institute's Alliance for Nanotechnology and leads a federally funded nanomedicine research program at CHLA. Dr. Uckun has received the Outstanding Achievement in the Sciences Award from the Assembly of Turkish American Associations, the Science Award of TUBITAK from the Turkish National Academy of Basic Sciences and the Stohlman Memorial Scholar Award of the Leukemia Society of America, among others. Uckun enjoys free time with his family, literature, and sports. He currently resides in Glendale, California.
